President’s Letter

Eric LongsGreetings and Happy Fall!

This fall means the start of school, a shift in the wind, a drop in temperature, and a change in IABC Detroit leadership. I’m both honored and humbled to take the helm of such a talented group of communicators in metro Detroit. With anticipation of a busy and exciting season, I’m delighted to introduce a lineup of events that will challenge, surprise, even inspire you.

Our first networking event of the season at Cork Wine Pub saw a great turnout, and it’s only the beginning. There are many events this fall – from our Servant Leadership workshop on Sept. 19 to the Branding a Small Giant networking event at Zingerman’s Roadhouse on Oct. 17 – that provide great opportunities to network with others in our field. Your membership at IABC is only as good as how much you use it. So, step out from behind your keyboard and get involved! Your career will thank you.

As we emerge from the most recent economic downturn, providing value for your membership is imperative, and it’s a responsibility we do not take lightly. We’re working to make our website easier to navigate, providing free member events and offering high-quality members-only programs. You’re a busy professional, and we get that. Whether it’s a workshop, conference, networking event or leadership forum, you can count on IABC Detroit to bring you events that will be valuable and worth your time.

Sponsorship is a key part of maintaining the standard of workshops and events you’ve come to expect from IABC Detroit. As a sponsor, you’ll get your message in front of key communications industry decision-makers. If you are interested, please contact Deb Salem, our vice president of sponsorship.

Before becoming president of IABC Detroit, I served on the IABC regional board and attended several international IABC conferences. That experience has convinced me that IABC is comprised of some of the best communicators, both locally and around the globe.  IABC Detroit is an exceptional group because of you, the many enormously gifted professionals who make up our organization.  We can certainly be proud of our city and the many remarkable communicators who call it home.

See you on September 19!
