IABC Detroit Brings Value to Members

IABC Detroit President Pete Ternes is excited to share the 2019/20 IABC Detroit Board’s plans for the upcoming year. Read the blog post below to learn about our upcoming events, like the IABC Heritage Region Communication Conference and the Renaissance Award program.

The 2019/20 IABC Detroit Board met in early August to discuss plans for the coming year. I wish our members would have seen the dedication each board member demonstrated as they discussed the value they plan to bring to the Detroit chapter this year. As evidence, look no further than next month’s IABC Heritage Region Communication Conference.

The conference brings together communication professionals across 17 states that make up IABC’s Heritage Region. Last year, due to the efforts of IABC Detroit board members Nancy Sarpolis, Debra Salem, Heather Guenther, Alex Hichel, Gary Spondike, and others, your local chapter was able to convince our Heritage Region leadership that Detroit has that something. Our resurgent city boasts great meeting places, restaurants, coffee shops and local brew houses. The easy access that comes with a vibrant city, combined with a local chapter that knows how to get things done, earned Detroit’s right to host this year’s conference.

Soon, some of the most skilled communicators in our region will come to the city to share best practices, build their professional networks and pick up Silver Quill awards for communications excellence. The conference will also feature in-depth sessions focused on leadership, crisis communication, corporate communications, marketing and social media. If you want to attend it’s not too late to register!

And the regional conference is only the start of great things to come from IABC Detroit this year. In October we will celebrate our profession and honor local Renaissance Award winners and the Communicator of the Year. Last year we stepped away from the traditional sit-down dinner and into a more relaxed networking party – and we got such good feedback from those who attended – we decided to focus on celebrating again this year. Stay tuned for more details on the Renaissance Awards and Professional Communicator celebration as your IABC Detroit chapter continues to bring value to your membership.
